About Hitasura

Most people learning a language are already doing the work. They are watching something with subtitles at eleven at night, listening to a podcast they only half follow, reading a page at a time, talking to someone once a week. The effort is real. The record of it is not.

Ask how much you have done and the honest answer is a shrug — “a few years, on and off”. That vagueness is a genuine loss. It hides progress on the days it would help most to see it, and it makes it impossible to know whether the thing you are doing most is the thing that is working.

Hitasura exists to turn that into a record. Not to teach you anything, not to recommend what to watch, and not to turn your evenings into a game with points. Just to keep an accurate, well-organised, beautiful account of what you actually did — one that is still there in three years, and still yours.

The name

Hitasura comes from 只管 — single-mindedly, doing one thing with your whole attention. It is a Japanese word for a product built for any language, which is a small joke we are comfortable with: the name is where it started, and the tool is for whatever you are learning.
